So I didn’t see this coming–demonstrations and people still grousing because their candidate didn’t get elected. Or actually, it’s because of the one that did win. I mean, you had your shot, had your votes, it’s over. I’m reminded so much of a child who didn’t get their way, who decides that throwing a tantrum is going to help.
Maybe these are the people who should consider moving to Canada…? I mean, I know it’s possible, to be in once camp and disagree strongly with someone and their opposing view but somehow manage to still respect them as a human being or even friend. Maybe this is just a thing for intelligent people–getting along with folks that don’t think like you do? Being able to passionately discuss your position without resorting to hate and craziness?
The flip side is no better–all the gloaters and haters from the other camp. Just because your candidate won does not mean you are right and the rest of the world is wrong. It doesn’t mean you have the excuse to act out all those narrow-minded, racist thoughts in public. You have no right to disparage anyone based on their color or religion or lifestyle. Nothing changed in that regard–this is still America and people have the right to be who they are. If you are someone who cannot tolerate others, then you need to head out, of the country. Trump being elected did not change what is right and wrong, regardless of how he personally feels about it. Discrimination is wrong, period.
I took all this as maybe a sign that the majority of the country is tired of all the minorities interests (race, lifestyle, etc.) having a bigger voice than is deserved. I’m not talking about their rights, just the fact that everything that vocal minorities want overrides everything else, including common sense and reason. Don’t take what I’m saying as a position that says they shouldn’t have a voice. When there is injustice it needs to be addressed. I guess where I’m coming from is that as a white, male American, I feel like I don’t have any rights at all. Everyone else’s rights come before my own as if I’m personally being punished for all the sins of this country against minority interests.
I’m not the reason women weren’t considered worthy to vote until 1919. I’m not the reason that free people were enslaved and ripped from their countries and stripped of their humanity. I’m not the reason that Native Americans were displaced from their homes and treated as savages. I’m not the one who attacks gays and lesbians and thinks that muslim women shouldn’t wear their hijab in public. I’m not the one who hates everyone who isn’t like me, including women. Yet I feel I suffer for everyone who did or does.
It’s like discrimination in reverse. It’s as if every white american male is held responsible for the sins of the bad ones. White Chamber of Commerce, not allowed. Any club that is “for” white people, not allowed. Men only associations, not allowed. Yet the opposite is not only allowed but promoted as “right”. How is this the solution to discrimination of the past? This is not the way it is supposed to be where we are all Americans and that is the only association we need. People will say this is reparation for the sins of the past but I don’t see how this helps anyone. Clinging to those labels and associations does not help integrate us all into a whole. If it is truly not supposed to matter what race, sex, religion or lifestyle you “are”, then why do we need to have a group for every single “thing” that isn’t a white male? Do you really need to be so different to have an identity? Maybe if we called it the Anglo-Saxon Chamber of Commerce it wouldn’t be seen any different from the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce?
Obviously this a biased opinion and I don’t expect anyone to see this my way, but it’s something to think about.
