So the election is over (whew) and now I hope America can truly begin the trek back to reason and understanding. Not because of who won, but because I have never seen more outright hate and contempt between people who have differing opinions and beliefs. I hope this isn’t a sign of the way things will be but I fear the divide between either side of any of the issues that came up during this election is too great. Time will tell.
When I have brought up the lack of reason and understanding during this election in mixed company, I have found few people willing to step back from their polarizing views and consider the other side of any issue, much less the ones they hold near and dear to their heart. I know people are frustrated by the status quo and all but that is no reason to check your ability to understand both sides of an issue at the door. Narrow mindedness is a dangerous thing and there is an awful lot of it being displayed lately.
So, I did some quick research after the news this morning that Trump had won, to headlines touting that white America had taken back the country. I happen to be a white American but I certainly don’t feel like this is only white people’s country. How could anyone feel that way when the core of our country is welcoming immigrants? So anyway, it turns out, yes, white people are the majority in the country, still. Not in every state but most. But, if you consider that 51% of the population are women, they are ultimately the largest majority in the country. So ladies, if you don’t like how this election turned out, you have no one to blame but yourselves, unless you subscribe to the dozens of conspiracy theories that I’m sure will be forthcoming. I say that tongue-in-cheek but I did get a chuckle from seeing all those pics of women crying and broken down after Hillary threw in the towel. I’m just as surprised as you that a white male could say all the BS he said and get elected President but here we are.
So that’s my take on it all; let’s all get over it and get back to dealing with the issues and quit beating around the bush. Quit calling each other names and most definitely quit hating on anyone who doesn’t see things like you do. Diversity is good; multiple opinions are good; closed-mindedness is bad.
The end.
